Our Story

How we approach a deck build

We build and repair decks here on the Gulf Coast, mostly for homeowners who want someplace to actually sit outside instead of a slab of wood baking in the sun. Most of us came up doing framing and carpentry work before specializing in outdoor structures, because decks have their own set of problems concrete and drywall don't.

If you're on this page, chances are a board's gone soft, a rail wobbles when you lean on it, or the whole structure looks gray and tired after a few Florida summers. We pull apart the spot that's failing, find out if it's a flashing problem or just sun damage, and fix the actual cause instead of swapping boards and hoping it holds.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed & Insured

Every job is covered by liability insurance and workers comp. We can send certificates to your HOA or insurance company before anyone shows up with a saw.

Permits Handled

Sarasota and Charlotte county both require a permit for an elevated deck over a certain height, and we file that paperwork ourselves. You never have to call the building department yourself.

Clean Job Site

Deck demo and framing throw a lot of cut-offs and sawdust around a yard. We bag it up and run a magnetic sweep for loose fasteners before calling a day finished.

Written Quotes

The quote breaks out framing, decking material, railing and labor separately, so you know what you're paying for. No verbal estimate that changes once the lumber's delivered.

On-Time Scheduling

Florida afternoon storms can push a framing day in summer. When that happens we call you that morning, not after you've rearranged your week around us.

Material Options

Pressure-treated pine costs less up front but has to be restained every year or two in this sun. Composite and PVC cost more at install but don't rot, fade as fast, or require sealing.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about us specifically, not the work itself.

How long has this deck builder been doing the work?
Deck building experience varies by contractor, and it's worth asking directly how many years a crew has specialized in decks specifically, versus general carpentry or home improvement. A contractor focused on decks will know Florida wind load and railing code without having to look it up mid-project.
Does the work get done by an in-house crew or subcontractors?
Some deck companies run their own framing crew for every job, while others subcontract out specialty work like screen enclosures or electrical for deck lighting. Asking directly who will physically be on site each day affects both quality control and scheduling.
Can I see examples of decks that have been built before?
A deck contractor should be able to show photos of recent completed projects, ideally including a few in the same style or material being considered. Driving by a past job in person, with the homeowner's permission, is also a reasonable request for a large project.
Why choose a smaller local deck builder instead of a big remodeling company?
A smaller, local deck builder typically has the owner or a lead carpenter on site for most of the project, rather than a project manager overseeing several crews at once. That usually means fewer miscommunications about material choices or framing details as the job moves along.
Where is this deck building business based?
This deck building business is based in North Port, FL, and serves homeowners throughout the surrounding Gulf Coast communities within roughly a 50 mile radius.
How far out is a deck builder typically booking?
Availability shifts with the season, with spring and early fall typically the busiest months for deck construction on Florida's Gulf Coast. Contacting a deck builder directly for a current estimate window is more reliable than assuming availability based on time of year alone.
Does the crew clean up the job site at the end of each day?
A deck contractor should clear cut-offs, packaging and old decking material from the property at the end of each work day, not just at project completion. Leftover fasteners and sawdust left in the yard are a tripping and lawnmower hazard, so a same-day sweep matters more than it sounds.
What if something on the property gets damaged during the work?
A licensed and insured deck contractor carries liability coverage specifically to handle accidental property damage, such as a sprinkler line cut during a footing dig or landscaping disturbed near the build area. Any damage should be documented and addressed before final payment, which is one reason to confirm insurance coverage upfront.
Will a deck builder take over a project another contractor started?
Many deck builders will take over a partially completed or abandoned deck project, but the first step is inspecting the existing framing to confirm it meets code before building on top of it. Work that doesn't meet current wind load or footing standards usually has to be corrected before the project continues.
How can I confirm a deck is being built correctly?
A permitted deck project includes at least one framing inspection and one final inspection by the local building department, which confirms footing depth, joist spacing and railing height meet code. Asking to see the passed inspection card is a straightforward way to confirm the work was done to standard.
